Mail comments to author - doesn't

Has anyone got this working? It could just be my mail configuration, but selecting Mail comments to author on the Admin page doesn’t seem to do anything.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks Jennifer. I’ll log it in Mantis.

Re: Mail comments to author - doesn't

It seems some servers balk at sending email with only newline characters as line breaks, some want carriage returns as well. Very finicky for such a dumb protocol.

I adjusted the comment mailing feature to use both for g1.15.

Re: Mail comments to author - doesn't

CRLF termination is required in the SMTP RFC. Servers that do fine with just LF are breaking the rules:

This termination sequence is denoted as <code><CRLF></code> in this document. Conforming implementations MUST NOT recognize or generate any other character or character sequence as a line terminator.

Just because it’s in the spec doesn’t mean it’s not overly picky ;)

… point taken though.

Did anybody find a solution to this? I am on a Fasthosts IIS platform and never receive any comments emails. Is there a log somewhere I can check to see where the problem is?

Best option is to ask tech support – the logs could be anywhere, or might not exist at all. The FAQ has some pointers.

Re: Mail comments to author - doesn't

No followup – I’ll assume this is not a bug.
