php my admin export settings

Hi,
Sorry for starting another local host thread but ive never been able to export a database successfully from my local host. Im not able to get rss_db admin working locally at all so im going to try php my admin again.
Last time I tried this though i corrupted the whole online site and had to do a clean install.
So i wanted to ask before i do it again.

here are some details of my mt grid account:
=======================
PHP version: 4.4.8
GD Image Library: bundled (2.0.28 compatible); supported formats: GIF, JPG, PNG.
Server Local Time: 2008-11-05 04:24:11
MySQL: 4.1.25-Debian_mt1
Locale: en_GB.UTF-8
Server: Apache/2.0.54
PHP Server API: cgi-fcgi
RFC 2616 headers:
Server OS: Linux 2.6.20.2-1
=====================
I have set mamp to use php 4.
What export settings should I use in php my admin that will import smoothly into the above config?
Maybe i should be asking this on the media temple forum I dont know.

best
kevin

Re: php my admin export settings

Last time I had to do this, I just used the default settings to make a backup of all the tables in the database (not the database itself). As long as you’re restoring it on the same server, that should be okay.

Re: php my admin export settings

hi ruud,
I will be restoring it to a different server.
-exporting it from my mac and restoring on my media temple account.

just wondering about the SQL compatibility mode drop down.

Se my local host is running MySQL client version: 5.0.41 and media temple is running 4.1.25
i think that may have caused the problem i had last time.

thats why im thinking set the SQL compatibility mode
to “MYSQL40”

Re: php my admin export settings

The internal server error could be due to a timeout. How big is the backup file (try creating a compressed backup) and how long does it take (after uploading) before you get the “internet server error” message?

You could try backing up just one table and restoring it. If that does work, it’s likely the size of the backup or the time it takes to process it that causes the error message.

Re: php my admin export settings

hmm.
takes a long time to refresh the screen after i upload the file, but im only trying a small file.
I get this error:
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator….
I will try and contact mt support.
