Categories not working

For some reason the categories aren’t working; when I click on a category link in a blog entry it goes to 404. Anyone know what that is about? I tried installing several times, but it still doesn’t work. I’ve used Textpattern a lot before, but can’t seem to figure it out…

Messy URLs work (the same goes for your sections), so it should work if you set Permanent link mode to ‘messy’ in Preferences.

If you still want to use clean URLs:

• did you upload .htaccess? (if you did, you might have to tweak it a bit)
• does you host support clean URLs?

Thanks for the tip! Messy urls work well. Question: is there a downside to be using messy urls? Or is it just that the links look different?

I find it strange that Textpattern doesn’t run perfectly on my site, because I already have a Textpattern blog on another subdomain that has always worked perfectly.

If this other site is on the same domain, and it works with clean URLs, then it should work for the new site as well. Compare settings (in preferences) and the content of .htaccess for both sites, maybe there is a slight difference that causes the problem.
