User Group Freelancers not to be able to see other's articles
User Group Freelancers should not to be able to see other’s articles.
This is becoming more & more important on my website
Where anyone can get a Freelancer login and contribute.
I want to be able to write drafts in privacy (so do others).
I also want to write a series of articles and set dates in the future for their publication … say the 18th of the next six months.
If I do this now, anyone can read, copy, and even steal my articles, and publish them elsewhere before they appear on my website.
I see on another thread a more flexible approach to user categories is impossible because of plugins.
I think the core textpattern should come first – Plugins will have to adapt – or somehow keep the six preset categories and allow unlimited ‘user defined’ categories 7 to n
I know Ruud has written a plugin to hide articles from other users that he won’t release.
Please, please Ruud let me use the plugin!!!
Thanks
Geoff

Re: User Group Freelancers not to be able to see other's articles
There’s a fairly straightforward hack to the core that allows freelancers to see only their own articles – it’s been extended to images and files too. I’ve used it a few times and it’s reliable. As a hack, though, it’s unsupported and not trivial to upgrade from as there are several small modifications in different files.
I think Aaron (?) did a half-way version using javascript to mask other data once the page had loaded so wasn’t as secure, just can’t find it off hand.

Hi Thanks Jakob,
I’m running v4.0.6 so wouldn’t dare try the patch …
I also have no idea how to apply the patches. I guess thats linux/unix?
I’ve read the thread you linked to and it seems this would be a welcome and feasible update to the core.
Unfortunate that it hasn’t been included as it would make Textpattern a true multi-author article publishing platform.
The idea of limiting users to certain Sections would be excellent too but not essential.
Hopefully there will be some progress if enough people keep asking for it.
Does anyone who keeps up with Team Textpattern know if this is going to be included anytime soon.
It really would take Textpattern to another level – and it’s already been written – crazy I need it NOW!.
