how to stop site images being renamed on upload
Here’s something that’s been bugging me. Say I wanted to upload some images for my site design and use them in my CSS, so for example, header.jpg, logo.png, nav_default.gif, nav_hover.gif.
The second I upload these, they get their names changed to something daft like 1.png and 2.png?
This is incredibly annoying. I’ve instead just uploaded all my site images using FTP.
Thoughts? Is their a way to stop this?

Re: how to stop site images being renamed on upload
Yeah, I keep site UI images distinct (FTP in own directory) from the image content (uploaded via txp). If you’re the site developer and can set up txp then you’ll manage FTP. Keeping them separate stops clients from carelessly mucking around with design too.
EDIT: Didn’t quite understand your topic title – perhaps “how to stop site images being renamed on upload” would be more instructive. I thought with file upload you were referring to the file tab.
EDIT 2: Thanks Els!

Re: how to stop site images being renamed on upload
Why would anyone want to stop you uploading images using FTP ? Lots of TXP types do it, especially for site design/css images. It’s a good idea to upload them to a different folder too so that other users with access to the ‘images’ folder can’t unintentionally delete them. In your case, as you get incredibly annoyed by uploaded image files being re-named, maybe you should consider uploading all of your images by FTP so that you can remain more calm and lead a longer and happier stress free life :).-
I take it all back, seeing your subsequent angry self centred posts below and elsewhere on the forum, I don’t think you could lead a happy stress free life if it was offered to you on a silver salver with knobs on.

…waiting for the:
- “this can’t be! TxP sucks, WP, Joomla, EE works in other way, much better, I think this has to be changed in next version! x”
- “FTP sucks! xx”
- “I need this, and subsections, how the heck there is no subsections yet? sections tab sucks, crockery sections are better! xxx”
- “this is incredible annoying and a shame, it sucks, your work sucks, this should be in core, not a plugin! xxxx”
driz, re-read what other suggested in this thread: that’s the way to go, that is how it works right now and probably the best way.

No… not yet.
I don’t like him totally ignoring what you said to him.
Everybody has been very kindful and helpful with this little annoying mushroom. Even Gocom has raised up his level of politeness when talking to him.

Geez I didn’t realize their was a time limit on replying :S
And I guess if asking for help (even if to YOU it is simple stuff) then I guess this isn’t a support forum

Re: how to stop site images being renamed on upload
It seems you have time to drop unconstructive messages (this is just one example of many you’ve already done) and to ask for help about your particular problems with Textpattern. It seems you don’t have time to use search because almost any question you have done is already answered before.
Hint: use the forum search
Hint: if not enough, use Google search, and add “site:forum.textpattern.com” to your query so Google will return results just for forum.textpattern.com
Yes, this is a support forum. Is there any question you have asked that hasn’t being replied with a helpful question answer? Even I’ve helped you on more than one thread, while I already think you are annoying.
Edit: i put “question” instead of “answer”.

Very ungrateful of you given how often people persevere in answering your questions. Answering your questions is like having a mouthful of fish with the fishbones still in it. And once you’ve patiently removed the bones and write an answer, you get it spat back at you. For the moment at least, I’m giving up fish.

Jakob,
I’m with you…nice analogy BTW. I feel like he’s doing it on purpose – just for kicks.
Driz,
I think you are going to find your requests going unanswered unless you have a major change of attitude.
