Gérard Stricher Portofolio

Portofolio of an artist, Gérard Stricher
Nothing really spooky there except I’m using a custom version of vdh_flickr to link each image displayed at large size back to Flickr.
Enjoy the visit.

Re: Gérard Stricher Portofolio

This is one of the better Txp driven sites that I’ve seen. I really like your clean and minimalistic look, and you are good with whitespace. Your typography is good with a mixture of serifs and sans-serifs. 8/10 i would say.

I have some suggestions though:
- Your site’s title is a little misplaced compared to the nicely grid.
- Ever tried to center that navigation? With both the title and the navigation left aligned, I feel that the site is dragging me towards the left.
- I don’t understand your logo thing at the top? I would’ve removed it if I were you.

Re: Gérard Stricher Portofolio

Thank you for your nice comment Thomas.
As for your suggestions:
- Centering the navigation would certainly avoid tension… But I think layouts need sometimes to be tensioned, especially when you rely on white space without much graphics, such as in this one… Tension brings energy where balance would appear massive or boring…
- That top shape is in the same vein… It’s not a logo, more a visual in gestation… Branding was not the subject there.
Again thanks for commenting Thom, much appreciated.

Re: Gérard Stricher Portofolio

Guillaume,

I like it very much. Very clean with a good choice of fonts and the different elements have plenty of space to breathe.

Although, I would echo Thomas’ comments regarding the title & navigation. It doesn’t look quite right. If you wanted to keep it left aligned then perhaps you could try properly left aligning the Home link underneath the “Gérard” in the title and space the links out a bit more evenly – News and Contact are too close together. Maybe a bigger gap between the title & the navigation?

The “stylised nut” graphic a the top of the pages might need some explanation too – maybe turn it into a link with a title which would give the visitor a tooltip to read.

One other suggestion, to improve the readability of the columns of text (e.g. in Biography) you could employ a technique used in newspapers – indent the first line of all paragraphs, except the first.

All the best,

Adi
