Server Migration Disaster :(
Hi all
My system admin tried to migrate my site from a GoDaddy virtual dedicated server to a new server with a different company. After fussing with it all night, we’ve got the database working on the new server, but it doesn’t seem to be connecting with any of our files (no images or CSS are showing up and we can’t even access the backend textpattern at www.oursite.com/textpattern.)
Our site has errors all over it but the raw data is showing up.
As I can’t access the /textpattern interface, and i’ve changed all the permissions on the files so they are accessible, I’m at a loss for what to do.
Should I clear the files and try to re-instal textpattern on this server? Do i need to erase the database first to do that? If I re-install textpattern with a new clear database, is there a way to import the data from the old database?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
the site we’re working on is ManBitesWorld.com
thanks in advance

Re: Server Migration Disaster :(
I would start from scratch, which means:
- get a fresh copy of Textpattern files (ideally, the same version as the one you are moving from)
- grab a working/unaltered version of your database, that is, probably the last one you backed-up from GoDaddy (you backed it up, right?)
- ideally, you could edit the database (a .sql/text file, usually) on any text editor. So, look for references to the old installation (like any /home/oldhosting/path/to/user/textpattern/installation) and change it to the new path on your new hosting company
- upload the fresh copy of Textpattern files, following the instructions that come with it
- change the config.php file to match the database user/password and the server path, and any other thing that should match the new configuration
- try to visit your /textpattern/ folder
- check the Diagnostics tabs for possible errors (like “remove setup folder”, etc)
