.htaccess

Not sure if I have asked this before but I will ask anyway.

Um, is it possible to use PHP scripting to open the .htaccess file and write in contents to put in under Extensions tab (that is if there is a plugin created) without having to go into FTP and modify it?

yes it is
Dunno why you would want to do this, because it could be fatal if someone changes it who doesn’t know what he’s doing thus rendering the page (and the extension to edit .htaccess) non-working and unusable and you usually don’t need to change anything in the .htaccess once the site works.

You might want to elaborate the reasoning behind your request?

Re: .htaccess

Sorry if it’s out of topic, ;)

I’m new to textpattern.

Can i ask something, why “.htaccess file is missing” on my diagnostic pre-flight check??

How do I fixed it???

FYI, I used/installed textpattern in subdomain and hosted on mediatemple

Thank you very much

Re: .htaccess

.htaccess i a hidden file on unix type operating systems (like linux/*BSD/Mac OS X).

If the file is missing in textpattern than you probably didn’t copy it to your server.

The .htaccess-file is responsible for rewriting the url for the clean url scheme – if you use messy urls you don’t need a .htacces, but if you want to use clean urls you should check your directory where you unzipped the textpattern archive into using “ls -a” on the console to check for the .htaccess

copy that to your web server.
