code_swarm

I heard about code_swarm last night and just had to do it for TXP. You can see it here. If anyone’s interested in adding background music, let me know and I’ll send over the source PNGs.

Re: code_swarm

Sweet. I’ll put some music to it. Won’t be in the immediate future (like the next few weeks) ‘cos I’m super busy, but I might get a chance to have a play with something next month. Not sure if it’ll work, but I fancy trying some Chemical Brothers-style beats to see if it fits the visuals. Otherwise I’ll default to ambient city.

Feel free to shoot the PNGs over to me in the meantime if they’re not too massive, or send me a link where I can download ‘em or summat.

Ta.

Re: code_swarm

Haha :D. I’m uploading the PNGs now – I’ll have to add another PNG for wet’s commits (damn you! :P). I’ll wait till today is over though – taller spikes with more commits :).

Partly my fault, sorry :-)

Thanks for the upload; grabbed it. Will use that as a baseline (bass line…) when I get time, but if there’s a commit storm over the coming weeks, feel free to add them and I’ll tack them on the end of the movie.

Re: code_swarm

I found it really emotional watching the whole story unfold.

Re: code_swarm

Hmmm, I’m not convinced the music I made counts as “emotional”, but I spent a chunk of yesterday fighting my aging computer for control over the audio and video hardware. I sort of won, no thanks to the hideously outdated 1970s IRQ system prevalent in the PC architecture, which chose yesterday to start sodding me about and introducing audio glitches in my studio. Typical.

But the overall result… well, it’s a start. Not quite as in-sync as I hoped it would turn out, though the code cycle did possess a pleasing 16-bar rhythmic quality at around 112BPM.

If you’re remotely interested, download the Textpattern 407 code swarm v1. It’s 25Mb using a lightly compressed H.264 codec and (just) passable mp3 audio at about 192kHz. Apologies but I’m a fidelity-over-compression freak.

Re: code_swarm

Very cool , jm and bloke… It will not be in the official selection, but would you like me to squeeze it in the mirror stage ?

Blimey, I didn’t think it was worthy of anything like that! It was less than a day’s work and the music gets tedious towards the end as I became more and more frustrated with my computer. And, stupidly in the 1am fog, I forgot to credit jm for providing the footage so should go back and correct that.

But if you think it’s something others might enjoy and would like to put it forward then of course I’d say yes, thank you.

I took a look at the criteria:

… the presupposition that video has reached a level of consciousness that could potentially be determined through its contradictions. As such the program looks at video through the Lacanian, “Mirror Stage”. That is, how the reflected image acts as a basic ingredient in the constitution of the picture from the subject and how this can be translated as commentary on the state of video, today.

I wish I knew what that meant :-p Sadly I’m too much of a simpleton.

Although I had to tweak the video footage to push bits of it in sync, from my own perspective I feel I’ve done better music and better video (some strong language) but who am I to judge? [ Oh btw, you may spot a similar text effect in the “Rap Presidents” video, partly due to my current love affair with Trapcode Shine; it’ll pass, I hope ]

If you’d like to squeeze the TXP swarm on the site, that’s totally fine by me. Will you hotlink or repost? I’ve only got a small monthly bandwidth and a mid-sized hosting plan (about 10Gb/mo, which is tiny when running the type of sites I do) but it should be able to cope. Shame the dubstation site is awaiting my next plugin before (re)launch; it’s in rvm_maintenance mode right now.

Thanks again for the props guys. If anyone wants any music or video editing (especially for music videos), drop me a line: I’m getting better at it and experimenting more now.

Re: code_swarm

I like it. A lot. Nice work Stef! Want me to upload the rest of the PNGs? Probably ~10 more (haven’t run code_swarm in awhile).

Re: code_swarm

Can do. Might be able to squeeze them in under the fade at the end… might as well do it for completeness, ta.
