Image thumbnail creation: "longest side" option
When you’ve uploaded an image, you have the following options under ‘Create thumbnail’:
Width [number] Height [number] Crop [tick]
Feature suggestion is added option ‘Longest side’ that is functionally the same as ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ but first checks which is longest and applies to that:
Width [number] Height [number] Longest side [ ] Crop [tick]
So, clicking the create button – or letting Txp auto generate off the previously used value – would create a thumbnail with its longest side the size specified.
Just done a project where thumbnails all required a longest side of 150px. Was cumbersome to delete thumbs with an auto-generated width of 150, move the value from the width to the height input field, and generate again.
glx_admin_image does offer this option, but it’s a complex plugin and this particular feature could sit in the core and would be helpful for non-expert content contributors.

When you uncheck crop, doesn’t that do exactly what you want?

Re: Image thumbnail creation: "longest side" option
I need the thumbnail to show ALL of the image (just smaller) – and it must sit centered in a square containing box
so I don’t have crop checked, and cannot utilise that solution
