Is Textpattern capable to...

Basically, I have a goal to create a web-site like kotaku.com and joystiq.com. Both of them are using Movable Type which has some essentials features these types of blogs need: an ability to share the rights with PARTICULAR users to post news, an ability for all users to register before posting comments along with adding avatar and filling custom fields, in other words – user profiles. These are 2 very needed feautures. Can Textpattern handle that? Maybe some plugins will work?
I’m soo tired searching for a blog CMS which can do those 2 things. Any advice on any CMS will be appreciated.

Re: Is Textpattern capable to...

Allowing only a select group of users to post news is possible by giving them a different privilege level in TXP. Allowing only registered and logged-in (on admin side) users to post comments is possible (using the rvm_privileged plugin). And avatar + profiles may be possible using a plugin like this one

Re: Is Textpattern capable to...

Thx for your answer. I see that the rights part is easily done but I want not only users registered on admin side to be able to post comments. I want a guest to come to my site, register a profile, where he can fill adress, interests, other IDs, upload an avatar which will show up on his every comment and non-registered users would not be able to comment. This is the kind of plugin I need and the lack of which is stopping me from using Textpattern. The site I provided (kotaku.com) illustrates that very nicely. But it’s on half-commercial MT CMS, which I don’t feel like using at all.

We do have a plugin request forum
Perhaps someone is interested in writing such a plugin.

There is two plugins that can “basically” do what you want, mem_self_register and ign_password_protect
