How do I create a 'Page' as opposed to an article?
I am trying to make standalone pages that can only be accessed via a menu — like an ‘about’ page, etc. I don’t want it to show up in the entries area since it’s not a blog/news item. However, I do want to act like a blog entry/news item so that if anything gets changed layout-wise, everything gets seamlessly affected. Any ideas?

This might help.
Basically every bit of content is handled as an article by Txp, but don’t let that put you off. Create a separate section with just a single article.
When you later generate a listing of posts on e.g. your front page, you can then exclude articles from that particular section.

That’s great, thank you! But do you know how to remove the the author bit from the page?

Find article form ‘default’ (presentation > forms) and look for <txp:author />
.
