Heads Up

Hi ya,

I’m new to Textpattern, but I’ve got a few brain cells left on my shoulders … so, it can only go hideously wrong.

I was hoping some kind person would give my uncoded pages the once-over, and tell if the project is do-able.

Please do ignore if this is in the wrong place.

Re: Heads Up

We really need some basic details regarding your project. For starters, what is it?

Re: Heads Up

Jon-Michael,

No problems (just didn’t want to get massively flamed for my first post).

I read Wikinomics last year and it gave me a couple of ideas – so I set up two domains www.spacestrategy.org.uk (wiki) and www.spacestrategy.co.uk (textpattern).
Both are active, but the co.uk is a incomplete implementation of a txp template.

Concept:
Crowd-sourcing ideas for Urban Design/Architecture: Ideas/Solutions to Client problems, or 3D modelling, or Image-Wrangling, or specialist consultancy.
Specialist Crowd-sourcing should have leverage here, as this is stuff that most companies don’t want to invest in – esp. now there is a bit of a crunch.

A couple of blue-chip practices here have shown some interest.

Closest I have seen is www.crowdspring.com (which deals with a similar area – but for Graphics) and is a good template.

Point Difference:
The whole project is ‘open source’ peer-developed even the the business plan, remuneration (hence the Wiki being the Community-side).
So, if we are charging say 12.5% of the commissioned work, and a fee for downstream work by others (i.e projects that we have frontloaded) – that should be ‘‘cash’‘
Of course, the ‘‘Costs of Integration’‘ i.e. setting the whole thing up will be chargeable against that income.

…so, anyone onboard when it becomes ‘Ebay+Amazon for the construction & design industry’ wins … how BIG, dunno (but better odds than the lottery)?!

Txp Issues:
Basic Framework – I’ve mapped that in Illustrator (its not cutting Graphic Design; but its OK)
Blogroll – yeah, I can see how commented Articles can be done (tick)
Static Pages: Easy

Posted these as PDF’s to Free509492.Zip by Bigupload.Com

Hard bit is…

The bit where Clients post their brief, and Designers post their ideas/solutions (inc. multiple picture per article) – you probably need to look at crowdspring to get an idea.
Its like Articles linking to articles – with multiple images attached to each.

…and I’m ignoring the whole shopping cart/payment stuff (assuming I can use Paypal or simlilar later).

What I want is:

Clients
1. Register & agree terms
2. Compile a brief; and define the deliverables (i.e. 2000 words; beauty shot; 3 jpeg illustrations)
3. Issue the brief as a competition; and make payments (in Escrow)
4. Comments on Incoming Ideas (i.e collaborate with Designers); rate the ones that that are good.
5. Award the winners (who then get paid from Escrow)

Designers
1. Review Competitions
2. Submit ideas (as defined by deliverables) as ‘work in progress’
3. Comment on other designer’s ideas (..and report plagiarism) This is a bit like Comicon at Game Artisans: http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/competitions/5/view_entries.html
4. Rate other designer’s work
5. WIN
6. Get paid.

Conclusion,

I think that Textpattern can do this… just looking for a bit of re-assurance. If anyone wants ‘play’ that would be amazing (and you can write your own ticket)
