multilingualism
I know there is a multi lingual plugin available. This may sound like a dumb question but does the plugin allow for support of multilingual capabilities? And we eventually have to find a translator to translate the words into that the new language. Or does the plugin actually translate the entire content into the new language? Because it seems like pretty sophisticated software if it can actually translate all the nuances of a language without any hiccups.

Re: multilingualism
No, the MLP plug-in allows you to present elements (text strings) of the site in several languages but you have to provide the text and translations. There is a repository of text strings, I believe, for other common plugins.
You can use things like google translate to automatically translate websites, but I think you’d be doing yourself a disservice. As a translator, I can say that google translate may be okay to help you as a user to ‘get the gist’ of a foreign text, but for presenting yourself the results are miserable.

Re: multilingualism
cool- just wanted to clarify that. is it any harder to design the site in 6 languages than in 3 languages? I guess it’s just more elements to keep track of in the backend?

Re: multilingualism
darock,
definitely, it will be a little harder to design/create/setup/mantain a site in 6 languages than in 3 languages, but I can say that working with the Multi-Lingual Pack is a breeze.
It has been pretty well though by netcarver and graeme (the authors of the plugin).
You can even begin with 3 languages and then add the other 3 languages easily.
