textpattern driving a mobile site?
has anyone tried doing this?
i’m looking to make a site for mobile involving event listings, and i’m wondering if textpattern will add a lot of data size to the output of the pages? this is a concern because if the site has extra bulk to it, users might not return. also if i chose to use one of the event management plugins, will that also add a large amount bulk to site? i can’t envision another way to sort articles by the date of the custom field(ie the date of the event).Offline
Re: textpattern driving a mobile site?
why would textpattern ‘add a lot of data size’? txp pretty much outputs what you input. you could set up conditionals to check if the user is browsing via a mobile device and output a different/lighter page if you wanted to.

Re: textpattern driving a mobile site?
thanks for posting guys. i’m just wondering cause i’m thinking of using one of those event plugins which i know are very bulky behind the scenes. as such, i’m considering a more modest plugin, but it’s possible that the plugins don’t even add to the final output as you guys mention.
but has anyone used textpattern to drive a mobile site? i’m talking about a site like Flickr Mobile in how it’s really stripped down and doesn’t use browser redirects. just wondering if there’s any roadblocks i should know about.
