Please help make Textpattern useful for me

I am a lighting designer, working mostly in theatre, and my portfolio is mostly images, but for some projects I only have video, or more often a mix of video and images.

In my live site (www.simonsayslighting.com) I lumped everything into one big portfolio section, and used different categories for different project types (Theatre, Dance, Television, Other) with each individual project being and article. I used a mix of your smd_Slimbox plugin and an7_mov for presenting the pictures and videos.

The draw back to this is I found it cumbersome when adding projects to create a new image category with the same name of the article to for embedding the images) It became easier to go back to what I did for my first site building static pages and galleries in Dreamweaver then re uploading the entire site. I am tempted to give up on textpattern and just use iWeb.

I am working on redesigning the site, both appearance, and structurally and would like some advice on how to streamline the process of adding new projects (articles with multiple images, and or video)

This time I have a different section for each portfolio section, as well as an sections for static pages.
I like the way light box presents images, and would be interested in something similar for video, do you know of anything?

All of my projects will have 5+ images sometimes combined with video. I would like to insert these images into the article using no more than 2 steps (once they are in the database)

As well I would like to embed video into my articles using no more than 2 to 3 steps.

I would like a list of thumbs in the article side bar, this seems easy with smd_gallery.

For project articles I would like to include article image at the top of the body of the article, I would also like to include this image with the lightbox slide show, but not in the list of thumbs. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This isn’t necessary. I too tag all images I want to use for a particular gallery with the same category, but it’s totally independent of the article’s category.

In the write interface I use a custom field to fill in the image category which the plugin in turn picks up.

To make things even easier you can use ebl_upload to transfer all images in one go and create and assign an image category – no further trips to the categories- or image tabs required.
