Re: Marketing TXP
-3 on dashboard spam
-1 on plugin ratings (unless you have a fixed set of plugins that are introduced at the same time and are never updated, creating a fair ratings system is almost impossible).

What about enabling a dashboard with TXP news, but having a turn off this feed button?
Let’s honour the invention of feed readers, please. Here’s hoping that clients will grok this, slowly but steadily.

He-he! -3, -4, -5 and so on…..don’t shoot me down, I was just making a suggestion! I don’t care either way, but it is a good method to promote TXP, like it or not.
What about my other points? Devs? I am happy to help in any way.

Re: Marketing TXP
I’m with ruud, and I will give same minuses:
- -4 for dashboard spam. Some users really don’t want be spammed, they want unique websites that do what they tell it to do, that is why I think Linux is so great and Windows is hateful. And if you want news, news, news, dashboard, dashboard, go with WP.
- -2 for rating system. No ratings, no. As ruud said, it’s impossible to build useful rating system, as plugins will be updated, some users are evil and rate like devils, plugin’s age and amount of votes will differ, and so on.

Re: Marketing TXP
I have to disagree again, Jonathan. I don’t mean to shoot you down, just this one idea. It is NOT a good method to promote TXP, like it or not. Perhaps complete newbies to the net might think it’s great but TXP is aimed at designers and (I believe) bloggers who want something more flexible than WP. This sort of blogger is sick of banners, spam etc.
If we really want people to view the latest news, an attractive image link would make it more visible, but when you start putting more images in the download it’s going down a slippery road, imho.
If there should be a news section on the front page of textpattern.com, what news do we want to see? Txplanet shows there’s a lot of news to choose from.

Re: Marketing TXP
Catching up here.
Is there current development of a new look for textpattern.com – or is this discussion the beginnings of “how to proceed/what it include”?

Re: Marketing TXP
Hi Tom, I hope this is the start of that discussion, not sure what is the status of the new look from Kevin Potts. Just don’t say anything about a dashboard with TXP news (spam)….!! ;-)

Re: Marketing TXP
OK. So Kevin is working on the new look?
Seems like you would need a good wireframe before you can build a new look…and this thread sounds like a lot of those ideas are still being discussed.
