However I think it should also offer options to insert images in the article’s body as full size, thumb and popup and not just in the article image field, no?!
As to the display of the images I would imagine a multi column layout like a contact sheet.
Depending on the direction this will be going I’d be willing to fund development, too.

didn’t variaas already make this? i swear he did lightbox work that was a variation of upm_img_popper. i’ll try to find the link. i remember because he was doing this while i was working on lam_image_uploader. i linked to it before and no one showed interest…

Pat64 also did some great work with a lightbox-style article preview thingy. Whether that had images-in-the-write tab functionality as well I can’t recall.

Is this off base from you are after? Made a quick mockup of how I envision it.
This would be a lightbox/thickbox effect over the write tab.
The content would need to be updated via ajax – which thickbox can do.
Ideally I would like to have the option to add multiple images.
not 100% sure on how to handle this.

@everyone: is the Date column really needed?
Like I mentioned before, I would like to see options to insert image/thumb/popup into the body, too. Perhaps that could be toggled by a preference setting without complicating things too much.

Mee too. I have a use for both variations.
Ideally I’d like it to be super simple for the most un-tech of user…a preference to turn on/off adding to the image/thumb/popup to the body seems like a good solution. When turned “on” the size of the “image picker” could increase in width to accommodate the additional column. In theory. : )
I don’t have any idea how hard that would be to code.

Masa,
Here’s another version with some icons for the features you need.
Space would be tight, so the title tags on the icons would be important to communicate their purpose to the user.
Not sure if they are the best choices for icons either…but I had them handy.
I’m all for these options…assuming it wouldn’t keep someone from taking on the development.
I’d really like to see this get done…even just a very simple version.
