i dunno. i’d definitely rather have control of urls for each article rather than always being the article title. i would imagine this might also wreck incoming links as well if article urls were changed sporadically on title updates (i’m always finding i reword titles on already posted articles. shrug)

Re: wdm_update_url

Hi Dale,

I think I don’t agree (although, more than once, I’ve also wished this to be default behaviour).
url-title is generated when you publish (to status “live” or “sticky”) the artice.

The problem about changing the url-title each time the title is modified is that you will break any link (be it on a search result page any other website).

I think zem_redirect pro could take care automagically of this issue, redirecting the browser from old non-existant url to the new url-title, though I’ve never figured out how exactly zem_redirect works.

Re: wdm_update_url

example situation.

  1. You build a site with dummy content
  2. You update the titles
  3. Permlinks have to be manually updated one-by-one.

unnecessarily complicated behavior IMHO

Re: wdm_update_url

That situation is when this plug-in comes in handy.

Cool URI’s don’t change. It should be up to the user to determine what happens to URIs which already were out in the wild. The url-title is updated as long as an article is in “Draft” state, and frozen once an article reaches “Live” state. IMHO, this perfectly follows Tim BL’s suggestion.

i had no idea that the draft state actually had ‘features’ like the automatic url-title update! good to know.

Well, you learn something every day, and that makes a lot of sense. Problem is that when you’re developing a site, that is not intended for the wild yet… (I use rvm_maintennance to put up a temp page while building the rest) you often use articles as placeholders.

So, this plugin will come in handy for me in the build stage and I’ll switch it off on launch.

Thanks All
