Re: need advice re buying a new mac

the price is indeed steep but if we’re to get it from the states it’ll arrive half price to how much the local dealers charge.

Re: need advice re buying a new mac

That was kinda disappointing with no Mac changes. Stupid iPhone (Montana = no iPhone, unless you want to roam 95% of the time).

If you’re using it as a desktop replacement, the 17” MBP with the hi-def option looks nice. Who wouldn’t want a 23” display in their bag? :) The standard display is good though – it’s the same resolution as my iMac. Regarding overheating, my friend’s revA 17” ran hot only when we were conquering civilizations (AoEIII LAN party). (He balanced it on three cold soda cans for efficient cooling.)

Re: need advice re buying a new mac

Yep… It seems that apple transformed into a money making machine. It used to be that it was about computing. Now it is more about consumer electronics and music. On hindsight one could think that their music plans were in the back of their minds since 1991. The problem I see is that they are just spending too much energy on i-toys and less on pro machines or the system. Not that I do not enjoy OSX but in some sense it is what we used to accuse win95 to be: a DOS system with a graphical interface.
