Help! Subsections - cnk_section_tree/mtp_subsection

Hi,

I have gotten myself into a hole. I am working on my first client site using Textpattern, I am being subcontracted by another firm and they are screaming for the site to be finished. The problem is: the design was set by someone else and they have suckerfish style horizontal dropdown menus. Fine so far, but buried in the brief is a line that says in effect that the client should be able to create new “pages” and they be inserted into the menu up to a 2nd level of navigation… Simple I thought, err evidently not..

Each plugin seems to have a problem in turn:
wow_menu

Nests categories and does sections only if you create a section and category. Doesn’t work in IE.

My favourite solution was cnk_section_tree.

Client could create a section and assign a parent. (as cnk_section tree has a parent tab in the create sections menu and can spew out the ul) but they cannot be sorted and they cannot exclude sections I don’t want like sec_list does (exclude= )for example.

I am really toiling here. Has anyone got any thoughts or help?

I wondered if mtp_subsection worked with 4.06 and if anyone could provide a copy to me. Does it do what I need?

I am a textpattern newbie.

I need:
I can set names and order first level of navigation which remains fixed. Client can create in admin a new page (section really) and choose parent. Then the menu is created dynamically from the list of sections and ordered into parent/child.

Anyone done this?

Kind regards
Almacmillan

ALSO: I guess I would be happy with cnk_section_tree with alphabetical ordering and exclusion. wow menu type thing would be better where you can move up and down and order.
ALSO 2: Does anyone know how to remove the weird line that appears in Jon Hicks’ admin interface in IE7 below tabs?

Hmmm…
I really hope for an implementation of some ordering mechanism for “cnk_section_tree”, something similar to what I’ve outlined here

What if you use categories instead of sections for the “new page”? Then stw_category_tree might help:

As you are new to textpattern, also read the differences between ‘categories’ and ‘sections’ if you haven’t already done so.

Edit: If you want to give your customer limited rights, ie. hide many unncessessary options like editing the css etc, I recommend you using categories in which case he/she will still be able to add new categories even with “author” status. He/she will only be able to add new sections if he/she has full rights, which might pose problems.

Can you describe what these pages are going to look like? Maybe they could even be articles, in which case it’s not that difficult to build a two level menu.

Just in the case you want to use categories for subsections, you may be interested in this subthread and in a modified version of zoo_section_and_category_list I did to be able to output nested lists with some sorting option for categories (not fully tested, but the name is working as sorting key). There is a showalways attribute in the original plugin to output the menu always expanded, to customize it with javascript.

This works for me. It’s handy, because you just need to create a category and assign an article to it in that section, and the menu is automatically updated. It all depends on your needs.

Al,

Have you had any luck being able to make a suckerfish or straight CSS drop down or dropline menu. I asked this very same question in possibly “presentation” section of the forum and no luck.

Basically want a dropdown menu preferably CSS because that’s the best for SEO or a bit of Javascript.

It can be done placing the code in a form, but that’s not user friendly.
