customize user roles: only grant access to a specific tab?

we built an extension (sits in a tab under “extensions”) and are now wondering if/how one could customize the user roles and permissions so that there can be users that are only allowed to access that specific section in the backend. any ideas?

Re: customize user roles: only grant access to a specific tab?

thanks ruud, but doesn’t this refer to the other way around?
as in: “you can only see this tab with the proper permissions?” — i, in contrast, want to grant some users access to the backend but only to that particular tab, nothing else should be accessible to them…

Yes, a combination of modifying permission for standard tabs and granting permission for this specific tab should do the trick.

thanks to both of you. i’ve created a new user role instead of changing one of the existing and that worked nicely.
