Static pages: sticky vs. live
Hi there,
I’ve been using TXP for a while, but I do have a tiny, silly doubt – why should we use sticky articles to manage a simple static page (like a contacts page, for example)?
I understand we might want to use stickies on a section that will also have live articles – but if the section only has a static page, how is a sticky different from having a live article and limit the page to a single article?

Good question. I think you won’t notice any difference in the output (because there isn’t).
But, for example, I think TxP search doesn’t look on sticky articles by default, so setting your article to sticky will avoid the article appearing on search results.
Maybe there are other things to take into consideration. Anyone?

Stickies don’t show in feeds.

Re: Static pages: sticky vs. live
I remember once in the Textpattern bronze age or so, when sticky articles could be viewed just like regular articles (and just like the stickies on this and most forums too btw), anyone knows why this has changed? Why can’t a sticky article be viewed using its permlink (or can it!?)?
TIA

Thanx maniqui, I guess it does. (Funny, I couldn’t search narrowly enough to find that post..)

TXPs forced mutual exclusivity of Sticky/Live behavior is retarded, pure and simple.
The obvious rock solid solution to presenting static information is with article IDs

Although I know what you are saying, the omission of sticky articles from the feeds is sometimes a very handy one. Sticky articles can also be presented wherever one wants without having to figure out how to get rid of the duplicate entry in article lists.
