You propably mean with html/css which are used for laying out pages – in TXP too. Sure yes, with more or less tweaking with css – or tables if you wanna get easier (please don’t). Do a “multicolumn css” google search.

I doubt you will be able to do such difficult layout using current best practices in HTML and CSS.
Particularly, the text between columns (the quote) with that double floated text on both sides… that is, I think (and I would like to say I’m pretty sure) is impossible.

Yes, in theory with a plugin. Looks like it currently only supports two columns but I have an idea for a multi-column site so I may be extending that plugin or making my own sometime.

I think the double-floated design is doable with cunning use of divs. For example, a small quote float sandwiched between two left-floated divs, and then positioned with margins should ‘push’ the content out either side to create the effect. But browsers, as ever, might have other ideas. I’ve never tried it so I may be wrong; it seems like it should be possible but maniqui is far more likely to be right since he has tonnes more experience in web design than I do!

Of course, whether such a ‘magazine’ design remains accessible and/or navigable and/or is desirable from an online layout perspective is questionable and down to personal preference.

Re: multicolumn article layout and extra text between article columns

As Bloke says, such a layout online is questionable. You are forcing your readers to do a lot of scrolling. Plus making one article span three or more columns, all of which must be the same length would require editing each article you write to make it ‘fit’. A lot of hassle and not possible automatically as far as I know. (The plugin mentioned above is not perfected yet. I tried it and found it impossible to create articles of a certain height, spanning evenly over columns).

So Minty is a multi-column site built on Textpattern that might give you some ideas of what is practical. Even that has over 100 divs though!
