Impossible to enter non-breaking space in FF Mac?

I’ve noticed one oddity in FF when editing text in the admin: it seems to ignore the key combination for the non-breaking space (Alt + space) replacing it with an ordinary space.

Opera and Safari properly insert the non-breaking space.

Has anyone come across this before, any ideas?
