Plugin installation problems
Morning all. I’ve read the FAQs and all, and I’m clear on how to install plugins, but every time I try it doesn’t work. I cut the code, paste it into the field, hit submit and… nothing happens.
I am presuming there is something I’m doing wrong, some fundamental stupid newby error, but I can’t figure it out for the life of me.
Anyone got any thoughts on common mistakes?
Scott

Re: Plugin installation problems
Probably you already know, but after you hit submit you must scroll down and press ‘install’.

Re: Plugin installation problems
Indeed :-) But nothing happens. here’s the process. I visit this page: http://www.wilshireone.com/txp/downloads/rss_suparchive-0.18.php
I copy the text, paste it into the box marked Install Plugin and hit Install. And I get to a blank page with the textpattern logo and a link inviting me to log out. I have to hit Back to get back to the plugin page, which shows no plugin installed, even if I refresh it.
I thought perhaps because of the way the code is formatted it may just be pasting the first line into the box. So I copied it into notepad and removed all line breaks, so it was one smooth line of code. Pasted that in, same result.
When I hit the question mark button next to the Browse button on the install pugin page I get a page not found error.
Anyone?

Re: Plugin installation problems
mmh… installing that plugin works ok for me. I’m sorry but I can’t give a better advice.
You’ll have to wait for someone more experienced than me to post here.
Anyway , for what is worth, in such case I would try reinstallig txp from scratch – maybe something went wrong during the installation process.

Re: Plugin installation problems
My site’s actually hosted by textpattern.com, they installed it for me. maybe I should talk to them…
Thanks for trying to help :-) Anyone else got any thought?

Re: Plugin installation problems
Yes. That is quite a large plug-in so you may be hitting a size limit. What you probably need is a compressed version of the file but I don’t think Rob supplies his plug-ins in compressed form. I don’t know if anyone might have a compressed version they can link you to??

Re: Plugin installation problems
Have you tried installing a smaller plugin? Does that work?

Re: Plugin installation problems
No plugins work, as far as I can tell. I’ve tried three or four different calendar ones. Anyone care to recommend a smaller one? And shouldn’t I get some kind of error message if I’m hitting a limit?

Re: Plugin installation problems
Could be a hosting issue, mod_security
comes to mind.
Try to upload a new file named .htaccess
into your /textpattern
folder which contains:
<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

I know for a fact that’s not true. :) You must have a typo in there.

Jeez Mary, you’re right. How off the ball am I! Shows you how long it’s been since I set this site up!
Ruud, ‘m trying to get FTP access to my site now, will try that .htaccess thing when I get in
