Git repository for TXP 4.0
I’ve been using Git almost exclusively in the past month. Come this weekend I’ve managed to do a checkout against TXP 4.0. You can find it on Github.
I mostly appreciate the ease of branching, there is a txp-gerhard branch for now, others will follow shortly :).
Over the years, I’ve found myself experimenting with different TXP features, mostly project-specific. After a few months I totally forget about them, a shame really because some of them were really good. Hopefully, this won’t be the case anymore.
So, long live the submodules I suppose : ).

Re: Git repository for TXP 4.0
Cool Gerhard. I’ve been using Mercurial for an svn copy of TXP and for other projects. I love how you can type hg clone ~/Sites/projects/txp/site
for a local checkout instead of the file:///Users/jm/Sites/...
madness of svn.
I’ll have to give git a shot soon, at least before I reformat my Mac :).

Re: Git repository for TXP 4.0
Hey Jim, I haven’t used Mercurial, but Git is getting madly popular within the Rails community. Rails itself is switching from SVN to Git, they are even dropping Trac in favor of Lighthouse!
I tend to work on the train these days, distributed version control is what I was after. Git fits the role perfectly. I was so impressed with it that I’ve switched entirely, no more branching and tagging madness. Things are definitely more logical on this side ; ).

There is also a bazaar branch of the 4.0 dev branch on launchpad for xPattern if anyone wants to use bazaar.
We’ll need to update the location now that the main svn repo has moved to google code.
DVCS is where it’s at. I started using SVK for all my svn stuff a few years ago and I don’t think i could ever go back to plain old SVN. I need to look more closely at git.
