joh_admin_markitup: MarkItUp Universal Markup Editor in Txp

This is a plugin that loads the MarkItUp editor into the article body/excerpt textareas.

I haven’t tested it very much, but it seems to work at least in FF and IE6 for now. Please report any bugs related to the plugin.

Currently I’ve created a customized MarkItUp-package for use in Textpattern, however I will try to make the original package work in future versions as it is mostly CSS that is customized.

Current version

0.1.3:

  • Is now using MarkItUp 1.1.6.

Installation

Download the plugin joh_admin_markitup_v0.1.3.txt and the customized markitup-package: markitup-1.1.6-for-joh_admin_markitup.zip. Install and activate the plugin, unzip markitup-txpified.zip in your /textpattern/-directory and you’re set.

I take it that you used the textile editor?

Hi Slaktad,

I’ve installed and activated the plugin, unzipped markitup-txpified.zip and placed the “markitup” folder in Textpattern – but nothing changes.

I’ve played with the folder permissions – up to and including making everything 777, and I get the normal Textile input page.

This isn’t the end of the world – Markitup is just “eye candy” really – but have you any thoughts?

I will provide more details as needed, of course.

What browser are you using and is javascript turned on? Do you get any javascript errors?

Nice. It works good for me. The only issue is that the Markitup textarea doesn’t go 100% width of the original textarea. I have to manually adjust it (this happens for every reload and can be annoying). I think this can be fixed in css. Any hint on this?

Thanks!

This works for me but certainly slows down the loading of the page it’s on.

I’m sorry, but I have no experience of Epiphany and Iceweasel and have no idea about jQuery support in them. The “johTextileSettings is not defined”-error is most likely triggered when the settings variable isn’t found. Can you find the file ‘set.js’ in ‘[your-base-url]/textpattern/markitup/sets/textile/’ ?

Fixed in v0.1.1.

Thank you. MarkItUp is now (v0.1.1) also loaded into the excerpt field.

Unfortunately you’ll have to live with that. Everything’s loaded via javascript, which, as far as I know, is the only way to do this without modifying txp-core files directly.

Re: joh_admin_markitup: MarkItUp Universal Markup Editor in Txp

Thanks Slaktad! Now it works just fine, but…

  1. with Markitup loaded also for the excerpt, the keyboard shortcuts (one of the reason I’m using it) always works only in the excerpt. I think this is natural, because it’s the same shortcut, but there seems to be a problem in detecting the focus (maybe a problem of MarkItUp itself).
  2. If I disable MarkItUp for the excerpt (I don’t need it) hacking in the plugin source code, then another bug is happening: some shortcut (i.e, CTRL+B for bold or CTRL+I for italic) are working bad. That was true also in the previous version. Just select a word and try: instead of *word* for italic, it output a weird *word*** , actually doubling the opening and closing characters at the end of the word!…

What’s curious is that the latter bug doesn’t happen if I load Markitup also in the excerpt!… But then the first bug happens… :)

Nothing catastrofic, but I can’t figure out why.

@Slaktad

No, I cant found it, my set.js is in /textpattern/markitup folder.
