paths problem help

Hi,
I’ve uploaded a site that was running locally and i have a wierd paths problem.
After i imported the local database some of the paths were changed and still point to the local folders and i dont know where to reset them.
For instance in my txp files manager i get this error on the online site:

Warning: cannot write to file directory
/Users/kvnmcwebn/Sites/aras/files.
Please change file permissions to 777.

but that is the path to my local site,
where do i change update the paths after i import a database thats running locally?

Ive had this problem before, for instance after i imported a database to a live site and forgot the password the password generator sent a link to the local site.

thanks in advance

Re: paths problem help

Have you checked if your “config.php” file shows the right path?

Re: paths problem help

When it happens to me I go directly to the db and change the path in the “txp_prefs” table. In my experience this has always worked

Re: paths problem help

ah yes redbot,
i see in the prefs table var section there are two fields that still have the local paths. now i just have to figure out how to edit them. ive only ever used phpmyadmin for import/export. shouldnt be too hard though right?

thanks a mill

No, it’s easy.
With phpmyadmin go to the “txp_prefs” table then press the “pencil “ button near the “siteurl” field, change the value and press save. If you want to be ultra-safe (but it’s not the case) first make a backup .

Re: paths problem help

Er… isn’t that just a matter of changing the paths in advanced preferences?

Sometimes it doesn’t work at first time, even if all seems to be set right (and I thought kevin was referring to this situation).
I know this seems irrational but I experienced this at least one time. in such cases It’s simply faster to change the db entry.
