"Full" Example Site?
Hey everybody, I’ve pretty much read Textpattern Solutions cover to cover and it’s a great resource! However, one thing that I found it lacking was a concrete “step-by-step” guide to build a website from scratch. There are example sites in the book, however I found while reading that it kind of jumps all over the place.
What I’m wondering is if there is a website out there where new users like myself could download a dump of a database created using TextPattern as the CMS as well as the assets for the website? Like the Buzzbomb website for example. If I could get a dump of that database and all the assets and set it up locally that would be a real bonus for me to learn Textpattern and get a better grasp of Textpattern’s semantic model.
And maybe there already is such a resource but I just haven’t found it.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Rene, I have to disagre with you, txp solutions is, imho best step-by-step guide to build a txp site that you can find out there. My advice to you is to find or build a xhtml/css site first, and then try to put it in txp, that is the best way to learn things. You have a buzzbomb site as a good example, and the book, and this forum.
Hope this helps :)

Re: "Full" Example Site?
Hello rheroux, i would say have a look at http://godbit.com/article/godbit-textpattern-code .
I’m basically in the same boat as you, though this maybe a starting point. You can download the textfiles and then save these as pages and forms. Though I’m a little unsure how to link the right section to the right page and then pull an article from the database (some dummy articles created with excerpts)
at the moment i am getting errors on when viewing the site:
————————————
Tag error: <txp:kgr_safe_excerpt words=“50” linktext=”• Read More” /> -> Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() on line 651
Tag error: <txp:sitename/> -> Textpattern Notice: tag is deprecated on line 978
————————————
perhaps someone else has used godbit source files??

Re: "Full" Example Site?
Keep in mind the Godbit source code is outdated.
- kgr_safe_excerpt is unsupported and outdated.
<txp:sitename/>
is deprecated, so you should use<txp:site_name/>
.
For starting, check out the default pages, sections, and forms that come with Textpattern. By using another site, you’re only complicating the learning process. Add new tags from the Textbook into the various forms and pages – learn by cause and effect.
