Error during set up
I thought I would be able to the answer to this question already on the forum but I cant so here it is.
I have uploaded all textpatterns files to the server and put them into a folder Ive created.I then go to my browser and point it to the address where the textpattern folder is….
this is http://rendesign.org/textpattern
and I fill in the database info and then click on next and I get…
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user ‘admin’@‘localhost’ (using password: YES) in /home/helen62/public_html/myblog/textpattern/setup/index.php on line 178
Can’t connect to database
My webspace provider has a mysql database wizard so I used the wizard to create the database I didnt do it without.
I have no idea what is wrong…and I even tried putting the details into config.php but then it only told me there seemed to be an installed verson already so I didnt need to set it up again.
How can I solve this problem.

Re: Error during set up
So you’re sure the database login, password, and name is correct? Most hosts prefix names and users with accountName_db/username.

Re: Error during set up
Im using what appears on the screen as I create it.
on mine it doesnt come up with db anywhere in it… just a combination of…
my user name provider gave me when I joined_database name I chose eg
helen21_text
There is nowhere I can go to on control panel that just displays all the database details which is stupid
There are only tabs for add and delete…
I even created a second one to be sure and it still didnt work.

Re: Error during set up
Did you grant the user permissions (ALL) to the database?

Re: Error during set up
The wizard does EVERYTHING….as far as I know….AHH I see what you mean
YES when I created the database I ticked a box which automatically ticked YES to everything….
Full access
but I havent checked CHMOD…
I believe there is a way I can create a mysql database by hand without the wizard but I have no desire to increase my daily dose of aggravation laugh
ive used the wizard for database creation once before and had no trouble. I dont even know where my database is located so I can change permissions via my FTP tool….
Surely I shouldnt have to go to that extent…

Re: Error during set up
During database creation there is a place where you can put a check mark and it gives the user full permission….Im doing that…why would you want any less if you were admin
Im pointing my browser by typing…
http://mydomainname.org/textpattern/
(no Im not typing mydomainname..Im typing my real domain name)is that correct?
I do get the screen come up where you up the database info in
or should it be
http://mydomainname.org/textpattern/config.php
or install.phpLast edited by rendesign (2008-03-22 05:36:34)

Re: Error during set up
Thanks for trying to help me but I dont want to spend the last week of my vacation trying to solve this problem I want to get my blog and website started…
I honestly cant find the energy anymore. I have full permissions. I have even just watched the video my provider has for creating mysql databases and Im doing exactly what I should.
Seeing something so simple cant be solved I will just have to use something else. Im very disappointed as TP seems to be the best.

Re: Error during set up
Actually, if you read the instructions, you need to point your browser to:
http://mydomainname.org/textpattern/setup
Then it will step you through the rest of the process…

Re: Error during set up
If you’re still getting the access denied error, it means your user doesn’t have access to the database. Have you checked your host’s help docs on databases?
Also, if you want a faster way to check your connection errors, upload this file to your web root as cnx.php:
<?php
//uri: http://example.com/cnx.php
$link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'db_username', 'password') or die(mysql_error());
$db = mysql_select_db('database_name') or die(mysql_error());
?>

Re: Error during set up
WHAT? Ask my provider for help? Well yes I could but Id have to wait a week for a reply and throw a bomb under him. Im only with him because when I was due to renew he doubled my space for nothing….yay….
He had aggravated me so much with slow service sometimes taking a week to reply to one question that I bought new space from another provider and their server crashed within a week of me signing up.
Asking my old provider for help is out of the question I dont want to wait a week for a reply.

Re: Error during set up
I have a question do any files or folders need to be changed to 777 using CHMOD? because I cant see that mentioned in the instructions and you need to do that for Serendipity and a lot of other things Ive installed.
