Image Management

I’d like to discuss about the way images will be handled in Crockery, if possible, to see if there’s a way to came up with some ideas (I’m sure our devs already have plenty of them so, in this case, simply know what they’re planning/working on :) in order to improve the overall functionalities when it comes to uploading, editing and publishing images.

One thing I really miss from the current TXP versions is that I can resize a thumbnail but can’t do the same to the original image. And a way to upload pictures directly from the “Write” tab (I know there’s stm_uploader but I think a core solution could be more useful).

Please discuss if you feel inclined. :)

Re: Image Management

two needs: one is the site’s developer – who would like to set a range of ‘standard’ image sizes & ways to insert … second is the content author’s – a limited set of options based on the developer’s choices

image sizes – thumbs, large size for content insertion, various sizes for specific uses, lightbox size… be best if the original image was always available in its uploaded full original size… but was then available in a range (from 1 to say 3) alternate sizes that could be generated from within Txp

image placement – insert into the flow, float left, float right, use thumbnail & lightbox, etc

if the site developer could set these constraints per-site, and the content author had options based only on those constraints – image handling would be much easier for the end-user

Re: Image Management

The possibility to choose the crop for the thumbnails (and for other sizes, eventually). Maybe similar to Picnik way of handling that (I know there’s an extension for Pivot, seen the video, don’t know much more…).

Re: Image Management

And specific predefined custom Size prefs, for all those thumb Sizes ( stored in prefs, or elsewhere.)

Let me explain:

Instead of each time trying to figure out which is the correct Size for the given case, you could predefine a custom Size, that you can give a name ( eg.: A, B, C, D )
Then instead of entering the Size again, you just have a checkbox select and switch back and forth between those.

Re: Image Management

Try this first maybe

There are lots of good ideas and suggestions in there.

One important point to note is the big difference between a discussion about the TXP core, which I don’t think is terribly useful because the devs have got their own plans and they’ve already read the forums, and a discussion about plug ins which is another matter.

Anyone, if they have the skills (not me), can write a plug in independently and relatively quickly compared to developing the txp core.
