Re: Monolinea redesign

Very polished and a joy to behold. Nice typography too – Dupré’s Vista looks just great and I see you’re using some of the new MS-fonts too which show nice and clear for me at that small size.

You got someone in to help with the copywriting I saw in the “About” and it creates a good impression too. The name rings a bell, is that the lady who writes on FreelanceSwitch?

The only things I noticed was that the “widont” setting in conjunction with siFR is sometimes eating your last space in a headline. Either you need to embed that fixed-space character (first you have to find it!!) in your swf or switch of “widont” in the admin settings. Also, I think you can afford to show more projects per page on the list pages.

Re: Monolinea redesign

jakob, THANK YOU! I had been wondering why those spaces were being eaten! :) Yep, Kristen has written in freelanceswitch, we did a work swap, and it most definitely made a difference. Thanks for the kind words :)

Re: Monolinea redesign

Wow, what a nice and amazing Portfolio.

It actually appeared to me, that I would never have choosen that orange background color for such a purpose, but given the detail it actually has the desired effect and looks pleasent.

Question: How much is a set of the 200 shiny Icons to be used in one commercial Website ?

regards

Re: Monolinea redesign

I loved your last design lots! This one gives a more corporate feel, imho. But excellently done of course. Very persuasive, I think. Clients will be rushing to buy your services now! Check your CV page in IE6. There’s a discontinuity near the bottom.

Re: Monolinea redesign

kemie, unfortunately i too prefer your last design … this one doesn’t feel as tightly knit as last one… lots of weird empty spaces, and a little too web 2.0 …

sorry if that is harsh, i am not saying it’s bad, because it is most definitely NOT, i just prefer the previous version…

Thanks to all for the feedback! :)
Yea, I was going for a bit more corporate feel on this one, and it was definitely time for a change :).

Re: Monolinea redesign

Like Stuart said: “I like it”, too. The background color is nice, and you have done impressive magic with it, as that kind of orange can be kinda hard to work out as a mass-background :) Most I like the single project page, and the little gallery script that is amazingly good chosen and light. Also it doesn’t look too hard and the images fit the nagavigation.

But I could point out that some seo work would be awesome for that site ;)

Re: Monolinea redesign

I don’t know what the other site looked like, but I like this one. The orange and beige go well together. A few nitpicks:

  • The top-level nav could link to the section instead of # (eg. /profile). Looks like profile’s article list needs to be styled though.
  • Unrelated to the design, but “A faucet or a light switch don’t need a manual” should be “A faucet or a light switch doesn’t need a manual” (singular).
  • What’s with all the name attributes on the CV page?

Good work though! I know what a pain it is to redesign and launch a personal site (I’ve been redesigning mine for ~1.5yrs).

Re: Monolinea redesign

I like it! Good work!
I like the design and the colours, the backgrounds, and those on the bottom corners of every widget.

There are some issues in FF/Linux regarding sIRF (Flash has white background and it’s over other backgrund images, like “Featured”)

I think there is room for improvement. For example, if you disable background images, the main text is over the dark orange and it can’t be read.
But because of the way you approached rounded corners and general layout, you can’t add a white background-color to your the divs where your content is placed.

Well… there is always a price to pay for rounded corners and gradient backgrounds.

Again, congrats! I hope one day I will have my own site (running on TxP, of course) and read what people thinks about it.
