multiple domains pointing to one install

I host multiple domains on my server. This is implemented by creating add-on domains and pointing them to appropriate subdomains. For example x.com and x.co.uk point to y.com/foldername.

I am confused by what I should have in the “Admin – Preferences – Site URL” field since it holds only one string. Should I ignore the actual domains and put in y.com/foldername?

Is there anything else special I need to do in Textpattern to make this happen?

Re: multiple domains pointing to one install

I think that it depends on your host as some hosts just ‘forward’ the domain to the main domain meaning that only the main domain will handle the site and the eventual url visible in the browser will be of that (main) domain. Look out though as I remember reading recently that Google penalises duplicate content in multiple domains.

Re: multiple domains pointing to one install

I am using A Small Orange who give me full control over domains. However I had some glitch setting up x.com and x.co.uk as Add-On Domains. After doing so I was able to redirect x.co.uk to x.com.

After this a Textpattern site URL setting of x.com works, since Textpattern is only ever seeing the one domain.

The user gets to see whichever URL they started with in their address bar.
