Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
Mike: MarsEdit focuses on configuring blogs on a “give me the URL and I’ll set up the blog” basis, so it’s really good in general at setting up a single blog, but for situations like this where are multiple “sections” it is not so good at automatically configuring them.

Many, many thanks to Wet, Mapu and RedSweater for tackling the MarsEdit/Textpattern issues. It would be exciting to be able to post to Textpattern using MarsEdit.

Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
I’ve been testing MarsEdit with Textpattern 4.0.5 and the XML-RPC from Wet here.
I tried both the MetaBlog-Compatible and Moveable Type APIs and am getting the following bug with both:
When posting an article from MarsEdit it shows up fine in the front page of the site, but in the article’s permalink page I get a blank article and a 404 message. I tried this using the /YYYY/MM/DD/ and /section/title URL permanent link modes.
If I open and resave the article in the Textpattern interface it appears again without any problems.
Please feel free to contact me
if further testing would be useful.

Please lookup the article’s record in the textpattern
table, and inspect the publishing date in the write screen – both before and after you re-save the article. Post your findings here.

Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
It looks like the post slug is not being properly sent by MarsEdit; the URL-only title form field is empty in the TXP Write screen in articles published with MarsEdit.
Thank you Wet, and please let me know if you would like me to test anything else.

Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
I just found the View > Slug Field option in MarsEdit and when filling it in with a post slug the permalink works! This is using both Movable Type and MetaBlog Compatible modes. Excellent!

Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
Textpattern 4.0.6 contains a correction, so an empty slug should not appear under any condition. You’d only have to update your site to Txp 4.0.6 to benefit from that (Nevertheless, I will release an offical XML-RPC package for 4.0.6 during the next days).

Excellent. Thank you, Robert. Beers on me if you pass through Rome!

Re: [feedback] How To Win Friends Who Love Desktop Blogging...
This is incredibly fantastic. Movable Type API is now almost entirely usable — the only problem that I can now see is that I can’t add a category to an article in Marsedit. Or rather, I can, but the category appears for a split-second and then disappears in the Marsedit post list view as the article is being published.

The last message was posted before I realised that 4.0.6 was out. Wow. It’s all working now. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. Now I have to concentrate on content! EEK. Well, I still have a few thoughts about custom fields :-)
