Camera Shopping

I know that designers also love photography, so hopefully someone can help. I’m looking for a compact (pocket sized) point ‘n shoot that offers the most manual controls (shutter mode, aperture mode). I’m in a bit of a time crunch, so I’m reaching out to the most active community I know. Thanks for any ideas!

I would recommend a Panasonic Lumix, because of the Leica-lens (it’s great). Or a Nikon Coolpix P5100.

I would take a look at Canon’s Powershot Axxx series. My girlfriend has an A710 which I think is quite nice.

I like sony cyber-shots as they come with a carl zeiss lens.

As we are on the topic of cameras, Could someone suggest a mid-range video camera which can do both standard and HD footage?

The options seem to be limited but this is probably due to my ignorance on the matter.

If I’m right you cannot really adjust aperture and shutter speed, but I want to mention the Canon IXUS.
