remove comments

In an individual article how do I remove the
“Commenting is closed for this article” from the bottom of the article – I am using my own form (not default) for this, which doesn’t have a comments tag of any sort, but this is still there…why?

I think I am calling the “comments_display” form, but I don’t know how and I don’t want to…
