does textpattern cms provide for a client login section?

I have a client who wants to consider implementing a client-only login section. would Textpattern allow for something like this?

Or if you need more flexiably, try some plugins:

  1. mem_self_register
  2. ign_password_protect

Cheers!

If you use the password protect tag, the login and password would be easy to see to someone that looks for it. The plugins are the best option, though I would advice you to not to put the self register, because this way anybody would be able to register to the page. You can use the password protect, and then enter manually the users in your admin panel.

Maybe, but not nessarely. If you want to create a community-page or something similiar to that, it would be the best opinion. Afterall you can change privalenges used by mem_self_register and ign_password_protect, so users with a title & levels of “None”, have no privalenges to Textpattern’s backend functions.

Cheers!

…a client-only login section…

That depends upon what features you want to include in this description.

Re: does textpattern cms provide for a client login section?

I built a client section for my primary site combining two insanely useful plugins…

  1. ign_password_protect
  2. asy_wondertag

Feeding a “login_name” attribute into article_custom tags via wondertag will allow you to feed only that client’s information (calendars, deadlines, image galleries, files, anything…) to them.

The only problem is that users can guess other user’s file urls, which is a remote but not inconceivable possibility.

experiment… have fun.

Re: does textpattern cms provide for a client login section?

Dale,

Your “for clients” page (on the very handsome C*2 site) seems to be exactly what I need to do (list the private file downloads available to each client of a small architectural firm).

I’m a TXP noob but know other CMS’s. Not expecting a tutorial, but could you go into a bit more detail? In particular:

  1. How does “that client’s information (calendars, deadlines, image galleries, files, anything…)” get attached to a specific user? That is, how would TXP associate a specific file with a specific “login_name”?
  2. What tag syntax from the two plug-ins would print the list of files available for download only by that logged-in user?

Many thanks.

Ok I’ve written up a tutorial in HTML but I’m actually a textile weenie, anyone willing to help get it on the forum (it’ll be a really long post)?

What is your definition of “really long”? :)

I’d help you out, but I also think such a tutorial would be better in place in TextBook. So wouldn’t you want to post your request here?

Yep, took a gander at textbook, and couldn’t really see where it fit best. Long is a couple of pages
