alllow_url_fopen = Off (Media Temple)

I received the following from Media Temple today:

CHANGE:

Starting on 01/18/08, and continuing for several more days, we will begin disabling ‘allow_url_fopen’ across all of our clusters on the (gs) platform. This will be a permanent change.

Will this effect Textpattern at all?

Txp should be fine. Can’t comment specifically on plugins though.

Matthew – my host has allow_url_fopen disabled as well and I have no issues with TXP core. I have noticed some plugins that have issues, but can easily be fixed by replacing their request with a cURL request.

It might break a few plugins that fetch rss feeds, depending on which commands are used for fetching.

This option enables the URL-aware fopen wrappers that enable accessing URL object like files. Default wrappers are provided for the access of remote files using the ftp or http protocol, some extensions like zlib may register additional wrappers.
