Hmm… That would be good option too. In this particular case we first made original articles knowing that we can translate them later with your tool. Meaning I already installed the pack but first concentrated filling native language version. I think in the design progress it’s good that you can build and test your snippets ready for multi-language use, even if you are not going to use them in the first phase. So in short, I think it would be better if you can select needed articles for cloning later.

Of course if there is just few articles, it is not a big deal to clone them manually.

It’s ok… I think I can live without it… or maybe not! :D

Just to clarify: what I asked was localised section names to the output URL.

I have a little question: how do TxP users that have sites in other languages (Chinese, Russian, or even Spanish) with just few or all “weird” characters write the section name when they create sections? I ask because I really don’t know.

For example: if I want to create a section titled “Diseño”, I know that I can’t use “ñ” in URLs, so the section name I will choose will be a “dumb-down” or transliterated version, in this case, “disenio” or “diseno”.
The same goes for greek/japanese/russian/chinese/etc TxP users: when they choose the section name, they usually know which characters they can use and which they can’t.

Going back to my example above: If I’m creating a site with MLP on an english/spanish site, and I need to create a section titled Design/Diseño, I will name it design/diseno (section name).
Then, I will have this URLs:
/en/design/an-article-name
/es/diseno/el-titulo-de-un-articulo (this article title is, in fact, dumbed-down for “título” and “artículo”)

(BTW, in my original request, the URLs I put as examples didn’t have the language prefix (/en/, /es/) but just because I forgot them, not that I was suggeting to remove them in favor of translated section names)

Steve, please, don’t feel like I’m insisting and arguing (well, maybe a little) on adding this feature. I’m just thinking loud… So, please, sorry if I bother you.

Finally, if after reading this, you think it’s possible… I would suggest to make it optional to have the section name translated!

I may be probably using the word “localised” in a wrong way. I just wanted to mean any of these: “translated” (like in services (en) = servicios (es)), “transliterated” or “dumbed-down” (like in design = diseno, when it is diseño).

Don’t worry maniqui — I don’t feel that. It’s good to have some feedback and ideas so go ahead and think aloud.

I think what you are asking for is probably best provided by a new permlink mode. Sorry to say that I hadn’t ever planned going down that route. Anyway, I’ll leave it in the list and think about it (sometimes it takes me a long time to think about things!)

I too like the idea of translated urls, now we can beautifully have for example page titles with all translated items (site-name/ section/article /what ever). Having clean, translated url same way would make the localized exprerience even more powerfull.

Just to update you on AndrijaM’s problem above. This is now solved and was due to two things…

A problem with the order of plugin installation
An error with the way one of the rss_suparchive tag attributes was being used.

Item 1 is important and I want to bring it to your attention. The current version of the MLP Pack works with many plugins but to maximise it’s compatibility you really need to make sure that the l10n plugin is the very first plugin you install on your site.

That’s because the MLP pack needs to get first shot at pre-processing the incoming URL (stripping the language marker from it). However, as plugins are called in the order of their installation into Txp, this is not always the case — especially when you convert an existing site to the MLP Pack. Some URL processing plugins (like rss_suparchive for example) will otherwise assume that the language marker is a section name (or something else) and things go wrong from there.

The fix (for the current version and below) is simple…

Make a note of all your plugins.
Delete them all
Install (and activate) the l10n and gbp_admin_library plugins first
Re-install (and activate as needed) the other plugins from your list

This will ensure the MLP Pack processes the URL, reducing it if there is a language marker, before other plugins get a shot at it.

I’ve fixed this issue in the development code (item 013 in the feature table ) so this will not be so important once the new version is released.

I’m working on two sites which content is bilingual. As you can imagine, the MLP has been an invaluable find (Thanks net-carver for the hard work!). However, I’m already using the glz_custom_fields plugin on both sites and I’m not sure if this plugin is supported by MLP.

Could anyone confirm if it is possible to use this combo: MLP + glz_custom_fields ? (That would be simply great)

I haven’t tried the MLP with glz_custom_fields but I don’t anticipate any problems with then working together. Like I said in the post above yours though, to maximise your compatibility, it’s best to make sure the MLP plugins are the first ones installed on a site and build up from there. There’s also a description of how to do that if you are adding the MLP Pack to an existing site.

Please report back with any success or failure you have with them.

Hi,

I’m using cbs_category_list and it picks only one language (default) for the category title. Do you have any idea? I used txp category list tag before and it worked well, but I needed that option with article count, so I installed this plugin.
