add images to Links

This may be a feature request, but here goes:

Does anyone know of a hack/plugin to attach an image to a link, as you would attach an one to an article?

I have a public-sector site where one section is a long list of funding bodies. Each requires a logo – functioning as a link to their site.

Previously I’ve made an article (without any excerpt/body) for each, attached an article image & used a custom field for the URL. Works OK, but it feels a bit clunky and gets tricky when the client wants to start prioritising the display order of the logos.

Another option is to have an image category for logos and output the caption text as the URL. But am I missing anything obvious?

thanks a lot
Stu

Re: add images to Links

I have asked for the same feature few weeks ago: to associate an image to a link (pieman, there you can read my “workaround” to achieve the goal, and I think it’s similar to what you though of a “logo” category)
But the thread didn’t receive any reply.

It would be great to have the ability to associate an image (uploaded on the Images tab) to a link on the Links tab, and then output it with a <txp:link_image /> tag.

BTW, I didn’t understand Steve’s suggestion.

Re: add images to Links

maniqui , I think Steve’s link was to show how to manually order articles – as a quick fix for my current predicament.

But yep, what you posted is exactly what I’m thinking of. Would make a great plugin.

Meanwhile in the real world, unless I’m mistaken an alternative to your workaround would be just to:
  • make an image category called ‘logo’
  • use the caption field for the URL
  • output the images using a custom form to wrap it in a link

That way, you only do it once – and it’s more likely that a client could get their head around it.
