openid $5000 bounty?

http://openid.net/foundation/bounty/

just wondering if this is worth looking into? openid doesn’t look like its being adopted quickly at all (i personally don’t use it) but the idea certainly seems like something worthwhile. i’m not even sure how this would fit into textpattern as it would be more handy to use for forum accounts but a few people (re:drew mclellan) seem interested in having it available for comments.

there seems to be 7 spots left for the bounty and aside from a bit of cash for the developers, it may propel textpattern to further heights by having a feature not commonly found in other CMS’s.

although one of the requirements is to have at least 200,000 public internet users and 5,000 downloads per month which seems an unlikely amount for this smaller community but of course i have no idea what the numbers really are.

This same topic was pointed out in the past. Textpattern doesn’t meet the requirements for the bounty, but it would be a nice feature.

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

Another issue was that it must be built in to the core, not a plugin.

bq..
  • Make enabling OpenID no more difficult than changing one configuration setting (there can be more optional configuration settings).
  • Distribute the implementation as part of the project’s core (it cannot be an additional download or patch).

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

yah i saw the mandatory core part. but seeing as txp most likely doesn’t meet the requirements of the bounty i figure a plugin version wouldn’t hurt. although after briefly looking at the openid php library it seems a little beyond me at this point. gah!

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

I think, at the bare minimum, folding openid commenting into the core would be incredibly nice.

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

I agree. I do use OpenID – for Basecamp, and several other apps that I can’t think of right now. I don’t know PHP yet, but like the idea of it getting included as a plugin or in the core.

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

i’m going to attempt this as a plugin (although more like an addon seeing as the openid libraries require you to upload a ton of files as well). either way i’ll report back when i have something.

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

I was fiddling with OpenID and comments. I ended up making a library plugin that uses the JanRain PHP library. To test the library plugin, I created a comment plugin that requires a person to validate an OpenID before the comment can be submitted.

Re: openid $5000 bounty?

I had this created a few days ago, but have been side tracked with other things. I was talking about it with manniqui on the IRC channel.
