How do i move a comment from one artcile to another?
Hello
Someone has commented an article A using the article B, because the time line for comments in A has reached its end. Is there any possibility to move the comment?
Best regards

You can do it via phpMyAdmin.
Click to browse “txp_discuss” table
Find the message you wish to move
Click to edit it (The pencil image)
Change its “parentid” to the article you want to move the comment to.
parentid is the same as the id of the article if you are viewing the site in messy mode

Re: How do i move a comment from one artcile to another?
It might be more complicated than that.
Here’s a few more things you’ll need to do…
- There’s also the comment number — you’ll need to change that so that it’s at the end of the sequence of comments attached to the new parent.
- Then decrease the old parent’s comment count by 1
- Then increase the new parent’s comment count by 1
AFAIK, that should do it.

Thanks for adding to that steve. did not think of the counts.
wish there was a plugin which could easily move comments around.

Another way I usually do is to re-post it:
1. go to the post where you want to move the comment to.
2. copy/paste the content of the original comment on the comment form and fill the other inputs with the data of the commenter (e-mail, web, name).
3. post it
4. delete/moderate the old one.
Pros: you don’t mess with phpMyAdmin, it’s fast and easy to do.
Cons. you loose the IP address of the original commenter.

Cons. you loose the IP address of the original commenter.
You probably won’t do nothin’ with it, as IP’s are dynamic and if that same commenter spams in future you could just simply ban the URL then. And with out legal notice, you can’t even list those IPs in stats etc. They are only a random number.
And I want add one pros: Commenter’s IP is lost so hacker can’t get it from Textpattern, and one cons. it’s way more slower than with phpMyAdmin when moving several comments, if you are quick to write sql.
Cheers!
