Converting html or text files into the TextPattern CMS
I have an html based site that is over 2000 pages.
It’s mainly articles.
I am looking for an easy way to convert to entire site into the Textpattern CMS.
I just need the original file name and the text to show up in the proper fields. I can add titles, dates, authors fields separately.
About ten years ago, I converted the site with a free ware program called text to html. I just put rtf files into folders and the program generated a site with a hierarchy and menu pages.
Now I want to put the site into a content management system without havng to cut and paste 2000 articles int the proper fields.

As far as I know, first you have to build you html/css site (which you already have),
and then use txp forms, pages, sections etc. to convert your site in txp CMS.
There is no easy way. If it would be that easy, just one button click, I think this forum would not exist.

At least you can export your content as sql, open the huge file in a text editor like Geany (Linux), and make changes from html to textile (through “find and replace”)
The worst part is updating the internal links…. you need to cut and paste all your content and then update each internal link, I think. I’m glad i only have over a 100 articles.

Or use find and replace to remove only the absolute URL portion of the link. Best to always use relative links.

I wish I could do that but in fact when you move to another CMS I don’t think you get the same type of relative links even with clean URL…

If you have a way to put your content into MT Import/Export Format, it might automate the data entry of your content. However it might take more work putting it into that format than copying/pasting, or some other method. Thought I’d share the link just in case it might help.
