What's in a crockery?
Hello,
I may have missed it somewhere, but I’ve searched across all TXP network of sites for a feature list or roadmap for the upcoming Crockery version of Textpattern to no avail.
Anything handy? :)

probably closest you’re going to get to a textpattern roadmap. some applications have fairly detailed roadmaps (typolight) whereas others have none at all (expressionengine)
http://textpattern.com/wishlist
http://textpattern.com/weblog/144/textpattern-elements
that elements article is now over 2 years old though..no idea what stage it is in production. remember that the lead developer jumped ship to work for wordpress several months ago and the newer members of the development team have probably a thing or two to catch up on.
though with all the nonsense drama months ago regarding textpattern’s development speed, you’d think the devs would at least keep the textpattern weblog filled with a little more info :(

alex shiels. author of all the zem_ plugins and such. according to this thread, i believe he joined the team on the initial premise that it was a paying gig but didn’t turn out to be. seems sencer joined in as well under premises of another paying gig related to textpattern but that didn’t work out either. i guess all the money-making ideas flopped so alex had to understandably find another way to feed himself/family/dog/cat/fish/whatever/etc.
he was the main voice of the team and i believe that area is now a void waiting to be filled :)

The only developer to profit from Textpattern was Dean Allen, he used an Open Source project to launch TextDrive, which was later bought out by Joyent.
As for using Textpattern to make monies, or for that matter any Open Source project, you have to build critical mass first. Wordpress did it by having everybody and his cousin use their software to setup a blog. Joomla! has done it by building what amounts to one of the biggest user communities surrounding a web based app.
When you have 100’s of thousands of users, then you can make serious money from commercial templates, plugins and/or email/forum based support. I just spent the last week in Joomla! land, I’m in awe of what they’ve done in just two short years.
Now, why can’t Textpattern do the same? Or should I ask, is it allowed to?
