ign_password_protect - forgot password

Hi All

I am using this plugin ign_password_protect and the alternate database, and was wondering if there was a way for a user to recover their password without being logged in? in the off chance that they forget their password.

I have seen on the authors site here http://www.igneramos.com/txp/ign_password_protect-revisited the same question and they suggest using < txp:ign_self_edit > but it only works if logged in.

Does anyone know how i can do this if your not logged in? basically a form for a user to add their email address and then get sent a new password?

this capability is not in textpattern itself so i dont think theres a way around it just yet.

I understand its not part of the textpattern but is there no possible way of the ign_password_protect plugin to do this if not logged in?

i meant to imply that retrieving/resetting your password isn’t even part of textpattern yet and thus no plugins can take advantage of it. as far as i know there are no plugins that will do this for you.

I think you’re misunderstanding. This is a feature that ign_password_protect (or mem_self_register) should have — if a user comes to the site, can’t remember their password, there should be an option to enter their email address and have the password sent to that email address. All the plugin would need to do is:

check if the supplied email address is present in the database, and
if it is, send the associated password to the email address.

The real issue is that the password is stored as a one-way encrypted hash, so I can’t just send it out; I’d have to reset it. It’s doable, and on the list of eventual enhancements.

i realize its a feature that those plugins should have. all i’m saying is that they currently don’t have said feature.

that being said, textpattern itself should also have something as simple as this without having to dabble directly with the database to reset your password.

Following on from this…

I am trying to add some additional data to the mem_self_register – i am adding an extra ‘newsletter’ & ‘title’ column to the ‘ign_users’ table.

In my form i have a checkbox for the newsletter and a select dropdown for the title but it just doesnt work for some reason and have given up angrily!

If anyone is willing to implement the above for me – plus the forgot username/password form into the ign_password and mem_self_register i am willing to make a donation

Only thing is i need it by the end of tomorrow ;(

Please let me know ASAP if you can help.

This feature is now part of Textpattern core— came along with 4.0.5, I think. Is this now possible with ign_password_protect?
