Showing inline ads between articles?

I’m building a blog-driven site that will feature a banner ad after the first two posts on a page of articles. Pretty common and basic. But the way I’ve tried to set it up, the flow of articles gets wrecked. I searched the forum and came up with surprisingly little results… none about my problem.

I tried to call a list of articles, limited to 2. Then I put my code for the ad. Then I call a list of articles, offset by 2 and limited to 3. On the first page, this works fine. But on page 2 and subsequent pages, I get two old articles above the ad, then the next 2 articles are missing after the ad, and it picks up from there.

I want the flow to work as follows:

Article 1
Article 2
Banner Ad
Article 3
Article 4
Article 5

— New Page (user clicks “see previous posts”) —

Article 6
Article 7
Banner Ad
Article 8
Article 9
Article 10

— and so on —

I know there’s a smart way of doing this, there has to be! But I’m not figuring it out. Anybody know what’s going on and how I should be going about this?

Buddy of mine told me that’s not going to work… guess I’ll try anyway, and take his info with a grain of salt from now on. ;)

Alternatively, use zem_nth in your article form.
