cant see sections

hello,

I am very new to TXP and how found this forum very resourceful. I was un able to find anything in previous posts that would answer my question. I am developing a site and first started with the structure of the site. I defined my sections so I could then easily link to them. I have built the main template, so I just set all the sections to use default for now.

Now, in my nav form, I put this code:

<ul id=“nav_main”>
<li id=“meetmike” title=“Meet Mike”><a href=”/mike/”>Meet Mike</a></li>
<li id=“tips” title=“Buying and Selling Tips”><a href=”/tips/”>Buyers/Seller tips</a></li>
<li id=“faq” title=“FAQ”><a href=”/FAQ/”>FAQ</a></li>
<li id=“featuredproperties” title=“Featured Properties”><a href=”/featuredproperties/”>Featured Properties</a></li>
<li id=“community” title=“Community”> <a href=”/Community/”> Communities</a></li>
<li id=“contact” title=“Contact”> <a href=”/contact/”> Contact</a></li>
</ul>

This is resulting in absolutely nothing. I am working with a locally installed txp and even when I type in http://localhost:8888/meetmike nothing appears. I just get a 404 error. I am using the book “Textpattern Solutions” by Kevin Potts as a guide and can’t find anything in his book about this.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as I am ready to pull out my hair!

Re: cant see sections

Josh,

You seem to be linking to /mike/ instead of /meetmike/, so perhaps that is something you can look at? Also check you have created the section mike or meetmike.

Re: cant see sections

yea, that mas a mistake by me. I have entered, and re-entered so many different snipplets to get it right. None of the section links work, and they are all created accordingly. I am really stumped by this.

Thanks for you reply.

Re: cant see sections

no, nothing is showing up :( only the default page is working, and I am using that as the template for all the other sections. Do you think it could be a bad install?

Re: cant see sections

Do you have the default .htaccess file in the root folder? Sometimes FTP programs don’t upload hidden files.

You have a default install and only added sections?

Sometimes with MAMP you have to add the full URL – try adding the txp:site_url tag like so:
<a href=”<txp:site_url />/mike/”>Meet Mike</a>

Re: cant see sections

Are you using MAMP?

Are you able to access the Admin side without problems?

What is the root URL for your TXP installation?

Are you sure you have the .htaccess file in place?

Re: cant see sections

It is the best CMS by far. In my humble opinion ;-) And after 3-4 years with TXP, I am just getting to know it.

BTW – if you add images to your style sheet when using MAMP – it’s necessary to use an absolute URL. When the site is live, you can use relative links.
