Problem creating new sections

I just installed Txp 4.0.5 on a new website. I’ve not done the install in a year or two now, at least. Everything seems to be working now (had some permalink issues), but I am having trouble setting up new sections. If I create the blank file for an Archive section, create a page for it and a section for it in Txp, and try to navigate to it (this is at http://www.forgottentown.com, so http://www.forgottentown.com/archive/), I get the following:

If you just updated and expect to see your site here, please also update the files in your main installation directory. (Otherwise note that publish.php cannot be called directly.)

I can’t figure out what I am missing, and this is an error that I’ve never received on previous TextPattern installations. Am I missing something really obvious? I am using TextDrive and was really rather expecting everything just to play nice out of the box…

Re: Problem creating new sections

using messy urls, your site works fine : http://www.forgottentown.com/index.php?s=archive so it looks like either:

host doesn’t support clean urls (or at least with textpattern out of the box)
you didn’t upload .htaccess (or it needs to be changed according to your hosts setup)

the odd thing is, if it were one of the cases mentioned above, then you should have gotten 404 errors instead of that odd notice. i think i’ve seen it before and it was due to a missing index.php file in the /textpattern directory but i’m not completely sure about that.

Re: Problem creating new sections

That error message is from an older version of TXP – v1 I think. Looks like you have left the old placement files (about/archive etc) in your root TXP folder.

If you upgraded to 4.05, you don’t need any placement files. Remove them and you should be fine.

Re: Problem creating new sections

Hmmm. I used the htaccess that came with Textpattern, and again, with Textdrive, I’d have expected it to work out of the box. I’ll see if anyone else has any bright ideas, then I’ll go back to bugging Textdrive’s support.

I couldn’t get clean URLs to work at first, but now they are working (for permalinks). But clearly there’s still a problem somewhere.

Re: Problem creating new sections

Well that did it! Thanks jstubs. I am not used to all the things I DON’T have to do with this install. Ha.

Re: Problem creating new sections

Ha! Good job I have been around TXP long enough to remember the older versions…can’t be that many of us left ;-)

Glad you got it working!
