admin interface

With admin facelifts popping up everywhere lately, I have one small feature request: whatever you plan to do with it, please also keep the default look at least as an option. I’m perfectly happy with it :)

Re: admin interface

Totally agree (althought, the mark-up could be revamped to be more standards compliant, and so, easier to skin).

I would like to suggest (I think I already did it) one minimal change and that is to replace the current tabs gifs with this tabs gif.
They give a totally fresh and clean look without even touching a CSS file nor an admin template.

Re: admin interface

IMO the facelift could just be the current look with better markup and the ability to specify a stylesheet. Then everyone can come up with new looks and distribute the results if they want to.

Re: admin interface

I would go with the default look too and a built in way to style it via the presentation tab for those who want personalisation.

Yes, I totally agree.

The defaut look is very nice and clean, and also end users have become accustomed to it. Modernising the markup so the interface can be easily skinned is in my opinion the way to go.

Re: admin interface

maybe i’m the odd goat here but i do think that if one of the goals of textpattern is to garner new users, then the back-end should definitely be changed/updated to a new default one (while of course having the original still available). with crockery/4.1 being an entirely new beast but most likely not being ready for quite a while, i’d have a hard time accepting that it should look the same as the 4.0.x branch which dare i say is showing its age via its markup, some inconsistencies(like being able to edit/change/assign categories on a mass level in the article tab but not in the image tab) and feature set (notably the lack of subsections).

i think having a new interface should definitely reflect the idea that its new, has fresh markup, and is still a strong contender at the cms/blogging level ( because i find textpattern as a cms is great, but for whatever reason, ‘serious’ bloggers want really stupid, superfluous ‘features’)

i love a lot of the admin interfaces and have never left any installation to its default look. one that could be considered clean, looks ‘updated’ and at the same time doesn’t stray too far away from the original admin theme is danhoys little beauty here:

of course i know there are many threads on this topic which have seemingly gone nowhere but i figure what the hell!

either way, as long as the admin area is a bit easier to switch around regardless of which interface is default, i’d be totally happy with that. but from a new user perspective i think a new one would benefit much more.
